Night at the bach {Auckland family photography}

It all started a few months back when Bonnie asked about having a Spring photography session at the family bach (cabin).  It was at this point that I did a little internal jump for joy, as it doesn’t get much better than that!  Beauty and personal connection.  The bach holds so much history, joy, and dreams for the future, it was the perfect location choice.  It was all about capturing them at their favourite place just doing what they do – enjoying the stunning beach at their doorstep.

Thanks for the wonderful evening guys! x

Award season again, and this year a Silver! {Family photographer Auckland & Palmerston North}

Wow this post is late, but better late than never!  Let’s flash back to the start of Aug, when this years prestigious New Zealand Institute of Professional Photography Iris Awards took place in Rotorua.  The caliber of work presented was utterly amazing as usual, and I came away totally overwhelmed and “fried” creativity from the visual overload.  Much like last year it was an emotional roller coster over the 3 days of judging.  I may have also been dubbed the “crier” by friends lol, but I don’t mind.  I’m a person who picks up on the emotions in a room, and man the air was thick with it this year!  We had excitement, joy, astonishment, upset, and even tears from almost everyone in the room from the raw power of one special image.  I was privileged to sit and watch friends achieve amazing things, and see some incredible stories being told through the art of photography.  Add in the social shenanigans and random late night conversations, and it made for a fantastic few days!

This year I entered 2 images, and managed to come away with one strong Silver award in the Portrait Classic category!  Last year Bronze, this year Silver, next year maybe the elusive Gold??!  The classic category is aimed at showcasing the talent of professional photographers and reward excellence for creative, in-camera skills rather than post-production techniques.  To top off my own award, my son was also featured in an image awarded Gold which was created by the super talented Bianca Duimel, winner of last years Portrait Classic Category.  Very proud momma moment to walk the award wall and see him up there twice under Gold and Silver!

Bring on next years awards down in Queenstown!

Here are this years entries.

*Please note that no child was intentionally harmed for the making of this image.

And if your interested in seeing a little teaser of what the judging is like and some of the top images, here a quick video created by the honours council of NZIPP.

Thanks everyone for all the love and support!

xx Shari

Practice camping {Auckland family photography}

Summer is on it’s way!  With all the recent great Spring weather we’ve been having, these two were inspired and decided to do some “camping” in the lounge.  They built the teepee all on their own, filled it with blankets, pillows, teddies, books, and a light, and after a great little evening finally fell asleep dreaming of summer camping adventures that are just around the corner.  Even though it was a school night, how could I say no :)

A Palmy session for this lovely family! {Auckland & Palmerston North Maternity, Newborn, & Family Photography}

A couple weeks back I was able to return to Palmerston North for a special weekend.  It went something like this…  Lovely chats with dear friends who almost all had something exciting happening in their lives.  A movie night in my friends barn with probably 20 members of her family – where it was projected big on the wall and we stayed up late until finally falling asleep in our sleeping bags.  Eating far too much at my favourite cafe so I’d be filled up until my next visit.  And to top it off, I ALSO got to catch up with this amazing family!  What a weekend!

I first met Tracey and Jarrod, and their little family, more than 2 years ago when I photographed them one evening at the beach.  So I was really excited to be asked back to update their family photos!  Little Leah was only a few months old, and she’s now a full-blown running and talking almost 3 year old!  It’s crazy to see them change like that!  It really doesn’t feel that long ago.

We met by the river and were greeted by perfect evening light!  We had a fun little shoot with smiles and laughs, made some beautiful images, and I didn’t think it couldn’t get any better!  But then Tracey said in a msg after choosing her canvas and prints that she “literally had tears of excitement, and would be waiting on the doorstep for the courier”  I’m so lucky to be brought into people’s lives, and asked to create something they will truly treasure.  Often it goes beyond just the delivery of the final products, and friendships are born :)  Lucky girl I am!

So without further delay, here are just few of my favourite images for our shoot.  Hope you enjoy!

xx Shari

2 weeks new {Maternity & Newborn photography Auckland}

Just a little blog today sharing some images from this shoot with the beautiful baby R who was just 2 weeks new.  She was such a small little sweetie, which was a big change after my last couple of big boys who were almost double her size.  She was wide awake for most of the shoot, but that’s ok we got some beautiful photos of her and those big, dark, old soul eyes, that are taking the world in :)  And thanks to the amazing family who wouldn’t let me leave both after the shoot, and after the ordering session, until I filled my tummy with delicious homemade meals.  Yumo!
